Abstract (AB): This brochure describes CHARGE syndrome, a specific set of birth defects that include coloboma, cranial nerve abnormalities, heart malformations, atresia of the choanae, retardation of growth and/or development, genital and/or urinary abnormalities, ear abnormalities and hearing loss, and other features including cleft lip and palate, tracheo-esophageal fistula or atresia, poor immune response, or floppy cartilage in the ears and trachea. The brochure discusses the treatments available, the risk factors for having other children with the same syndrome, and other conditions that are similar to CHARGE.
The brochure also includes information about the CHARGE Syndrome Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides information and referrals on CHARGE syndrome. An order form for brochures and other publications available from the Foundation is included.
