Getting Medical Coverage for Orthodontics
Posted by a parent (Cheryl McUmber) on cleft-talk, the email discussion list
At the American Cleft Palate Conference (1997) Dr. Marilyn Cohen spoke about the issues of orthodonic coverage. She has had families who were successful in getting coverage of orthodontics. The best results were when a Plastic surgeon wrote a letter stating that orthodontics were:
1. Needed for the maintenance of the bone graft and
2. the stability of the maxillary arch.
If rejected demand that a plastic or oral maxillary surgeon review your claim. She might be able to be reached at (609) 342-3338. You might need to leave a message for her. As of right now she does not have an e-mail address.
